24 (Christmas Remix) • Live from Montrose 12.15.21

A RECESS MVMT original featuring “24” by Kanye West, “River” by Joni Mitchell and “Silent Night”. Part of our Montrose Caroling experience this Christmas season in Houston, Texas. “Holidays brings up a lot of different emotions for people. For some it’s a sad & somber time of year, for others it’s full of joy & anticipation, & for others it’s somewhere in between. This remix acknowledges all 3 voices, & releases a blessing that no matter what you’re going through rn, there is a hope worth holding on to. The soloist for ‘24’ represents the ones who are wrestling but still fighting the good fight. The soloist for ‘River’ speaks for those for whom this season is full of pain & a longing to escape. The ‘Silent Night’ soloist represents those who have an unshakeable peace in this season. The voice of the choir could be seen as the voice of angels & elders who’ve gone before us, reminding us ‘we’re gonna be okay’ because ‘God’s not finished’. When you hear this song in this way, it takes on a whole new meaning. We pray this song meets you right where you are and fills you with supernatural courage, rest and belief. God’s not finished fighting for you, your family, your mental health, your career, your relationships, your dreams. He loves you, and we do, too.” - @kalliebah — — — Soloists: @mickyvm @kalliebah @lifeasleandra Dancers: @giulzvelez @laramlanphier @mo_claiborne Band: @joshuaello @sellwithjose @cabwenz Choir: @wwarrior89 @spickowens @thatguylooksfresh @jennlockemeyer @nikiajnae @les.sanchezz @lilofth3val @mikaellabarnett Video: @abigail_kirch @kalliebah Locations: @agorahoustonofficial @pettycashhtx @pavement_houston @theblessingsgallery #htx #montrose #caroling #christmas #silentnight #music #livemusic

How could I return back to God after the one I looked up to for hearing His voice proved his own imperfection? & then 2020 came⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The ultimate time of reflection⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2021⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Another moment to consider⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Not of our own doing, but maybe for a higher purpose? We were given time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Time to regroup⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Time to form your own identity⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Time to rebuild on a correct foundation⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Time for us to realize that we have a perfect Father to depend on despite all worldly imperfections Take the moment that has been placed on us⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Grasp and realize what we’ve been given. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A moment of silence. THE ART OF REBUILDING: Career Edition

A story of rebuilding by Xavier & Mari Godoy of Mastrantos Restaurant in Houston, TX (https://www.mastrantosintheheights.com/) // Video by Nathan Berry // Premiered 10.6 on the streets of Montrose in HTX as a part of "The Art of Rebuilding: Vol 3 - Surrender" live art performance Join us every Wednesday night from Sept 22 - Nov 10th for more live art pop-up performances. Check us out for more details -- Social: @RECESSMVMT Url: WWW.RECESSMOVEMENT.ORG/TAOR ---- "After 12 years of comfortable & safe corporate careers, Mari & I decided to risk it all. We jumped with both feet into one of the most risky industries there is, just after our precious 3rd child had been born. Owning our own company had an incredible cache, a feeling that most of us dream of... Business plan in hand, potential investors, a ton of due diligence & all the energy & passion ready to be used towards Mastrantos, our first new restaurant. We missed one important factor in our analysis: the unknowns... Being your own boss & building a business from scratch is not as catchy as it sounds. Honestly, we could have quit at any of those low points, & many people do. But we had no alternative. We jumped into this project with both feet. We rebuilt anytime we could & adapted quickly to the situation. We failed many times, but we always said, 'if we fail, let’s fail quick.' We never stayed in the hole for too long & always looked for an opportunity to keep going. We are still far from calling this project a successful one, but what we are now living may be the best stage in our life. Our family is stronger, every day is better than the last & every week seems to improve significantly. However, the best feeling of all is that we get to build something new, something great, something we believe in more than anything else. The best of all is that we get to try. The best of all this is that we work daily to add a little extra for a better society, for a better world. We are believers that the 'doing' is even more important than the idea itself. So if you are stuck on making a decision, know that the most important decision is the one that is made, not the one that is evaluated forever. Move on & give it a try. Do your due diligence, but believe in yourself; things will get sorted out along the way as long as you wake up and fight everyday. Enjoy the ride & show that smile, even now."

THE ART OF REBUILDING: Coming to America Edition

A story of rebuilding by Joselyn Gonzalez // Video by Nathan Berry // Premiered 9.29 on the streets of Montrose in HTX as a part of "The Art of Rebuilding: Vol 2 - Hope" live art performance Join us every Wednesday night from Sept 22 - Nov 10th for more live art pop-up performances. For more details, check us out -- Social: @RECESSMVMT Url: WWW.RECESSMOVEMENT.ORG/TAOR ---- "Change is painful. I moved to the US when I was 10-years-old due to my parents losing their business in Ecuador. It was one of the most impactful seasons of my life and one that shaped my adulthood. It was a time of life where I became invisible - because I was new, became silent - because I didn’t speak the language, became numb - because change was too hard to process. This time of my life would take me years to overcome. A desire to perform and achieve would lead me to wrong paths. A burden too hard to carry would break me - emotionally and physically - to the point of near suicide. Change is painful. But it doesn’t stop at that. If you allow it to be, change is redemptive, change is healing, change rebuilds. There is no change without rebuilding, and there is no way to rebuild without changing. God’s love changes you. His love rebuilds. Then one day you wake up and realize there is so much hope. If you cling to it, His love consumes you, and it rebuilds you from the inside out. It brings life to the places you thought were dead. Your voice returns, and it tells you who you are, whose you are and what you’re made for. It empowers you. Depression comes knocking, but it has lost its power over you. Numbness creeps its way into your heart, but your spirit kicks it out. Silence tries to hold you captive, but you’ve already been set free. Change doesn’t mean that life becomes perfect. Darkness will fight, but rest assured my child, so will our God." #theArtofRebuilding #ARTREBUILDS
