"After 12 years of comfortable & safe corporate careers, Mari & I decided to risk it all. We jumped with both feet into one of the most risky industries there is, just after our precious 3rd child had been born. Owning our own company had an incredible cache, a feeling that most of us dream of... Business plan in hand, potential investors, a ton of due diligence & all the energy & passion ready to be used towards Mastrantos, our first new restaurant. We missed one important factor in our analysis: the unknowns...
Being your own boss & building a business from scratch is not as catchy as it sounds. Honestly, we could have quit at any of those low points, & many people do. But we had no alternative. We jumped into this project with both feet. We rebuilt anytime we could & adapted quickly to the situation. We failed many times, but we always said, 'if we fail, let’s fail quick.' We never stayed in the hole for too long & always looked for an opportunity to keep going.
We are still far from calling this project a successful one, but what we are now living may be the best stage in our life. Our family is stronger, every day is better than the last & every week seems to improve significantly. However, the best feeling of all is that we get to build something new, something great, something we believe in more than anything else. The best of all is that we get to try. The best of all this is that we work daily to add a little extra for a better society, for a better world.
We are believers that the 'doing' is even more important than the idea itself. So if you are stuck on making a decision, know that the most important decision is the one that is made, not the one that is evaluated forever. Move on & give it a try. Do your due diligence, but believe in yourself; things will get sorted out along the way as long as you wake up and fight everyday. Enjoy the ride & show that smile, even now."
